Sadaqah

Sadaqah. Fidya. Zakah

Sadaqah

Sadaqah is given purely for the sake of Allah (swt). Any amount of charity can be given at any time of the year, but is especially rewarding when given in Ramadan. Sadaqah can also be given in different forms such as Sadaqah-e-Jariya which means ongoing charity.

Fidya

The elderley, infirm, pregnant women, and nursing mothers who are unable to fast during or after Ramadan must compensate by feeding a poor person for every day of fasting they miss. The cost of feeding a person is $10 a day or roughly $300 a month.

Zakah

Zakah is the compulsory giving of a set proportion of one’s wealth to charity. It is regarded as a type of worship and of self-purification. Zakah is the third Pillar of Islam. Zakah does not refer to charitable gifts given out of kindness or generosity, but to the systematic giving of 2.5% of one’s wealth each year to benefit the poor. The 2.5% rate only applies to cash, gold, and silver, and commercial items. There are other rates for farm and mining produce, and for animals.
